"Aztec Axolotl"- Axolotl Themed Art
So for today's Tuesday blog I thought i'd go with a fun theme, a progress post on a piece of Axolotl themed art I did titled "Aztec Axolotl".
Earlier this week my younger sister asked me to do some watercolour and ink concept pieces for an upcoming tattoo appointment she had. While I had my supplies out I decided to put brush to paper and do a comic/aztec rendition of an Axolotl with Nammu as a juvenile for inspiration.
Step One: I laid down the watercolour base first, and found it dried more as a paste than I liked:
(Step 2) I did my best to lay heavier colour and shaping lines, but could still really only see them when I held it up to the light:
(Last Step) Finally I did my outlining and detailing in graphic novel inking pens and framed the final piece in a black half deep frame:
TA DA! Of course there are details on it that drive me mad but overall i'm pleased with how it turned out considering a) I haven't used watercolour in over 3 years and b) I had no clue what I was doing.
As a fun bonus I include a drawing of an Axolotl done by my 5 year old daughter! Enjoy...it's the stuff nightmares are made of.
Thanks for stopping by and take care!
