The New Arrival- Golden Albino from "Axolotl Canada" in Toronto
So big news on the cold western front! I have been searching locally for a golden albino for about 8 months now, and although I've seen 3 or 4 different breeders raise and sell out clutches nearby there have been absolutely none. Nothing on the golden albino front. I figured hrrrm, maybe there are some in Calgary? None, zip, nada. Being an impatient and determined creature I decide I will simply order one online- not so simple. I only found 3 online breeders, and only 1 of them had the positive reviews I needed from the members at Caudata.org in order to feel confident in making a long distance live animal purchase. I gave a phone call to Drew at "Axolotl Canada" and within 2 days my new golden albino was here. I am a happy puddle of humanity.
Shipping was pricey (85$) from North York, Ontario (near Toronto) to Edmonton, Alberta but the company gave me a discount on the axie juvie itself to help accommodate for the high shipping cost which I though was very kind. .
In case you're considering buying from Axolotl Canada yourself, the process went something like this:
1. I contacted Drew via the phone number provided and discussed with her where I lived, and what I was looking for in terms of colour.
2. Drew contacted her shipping company to figure out shipping costs and called me back. We agreed on a price and she explained she would be sending a paypal payment request and that my animal would ship the evening of the day after payment was processed.
3. I received the Paypal request and paid for the Axolotl and shipping.
4. Drew sent me an e-mail to let me know payment was received and my Axolotl would be shipping the next day.
5. I received some photos on shipping day from Drew of the animal she would be sending.
6. Drew messaged me in the evening to let me know my Axolotl had been shipped and what the tracking number was.
7. Purolator brings the package to your door during business hours the next day. (In my case Purolator mixed up which route my package needed to be on and called me to come to the depot and pick it up, they had it waiting at the front counter).
I'm still deciding on a name, she has 1 month in QT in the basement and then probably another 2 months of grow-out before she is ready to join the gang in the 55 gallon so I suppose I have time to think. I am so blown away, she has warm yellow tones and tons of irridophores as well as nice white pigmentation! This is my favorite Axolotl morph out there, prettiest golden albino in Alberta.
Here are some photos, pardon the sub-par quality but I snapped them quick...my basement is creepy and I wanted to leave lol.
Thanks for swinging by guys, and if you have any name suggestions shoot me an e-mail!
